How much warp, really?

Cut a tablet warp too short and the failure arrives at the end — where it ruins more work than anywhere else could. The warp planner asks four numbers and answers one, with the arithmetic written on the counter for anyone who wants to check it:

warp = finished × (1 + take-up) + 2 × tails + loom waste

For the two crafts the planner covers, the numbers come from the way the bands are actually woven: tablet bands eat 20% — Handwoven's 10–15%, plus the twist the cards add — and inkle bands eat 15%. Tails default to 150 mm a side on tablet, 100 mm on inkle. The loom waste sits on top of that: 50 cm in the tablet preset, 38 cm in the inkle one.

Run the default once, in your head: a 60 cm finished band, tablet preset. Sixty × 1.2 is 72; the two 150 mm tails add 30; the loom waste adds 50. 152 cm of warp — before the first cord is tied.

The planner handles the weft too — weft ≈ picks × width × 1.15 + 500 mm, the same math the app turns into its supplies CSV — and the loom's ceiling: an Inklette's 1.8 m table and an inkle loom's 2.8 m both answer "how long a band can I finish on this thing?" before you commit the warp.
